Frost laws don’t go on all at once

Michigan’s seasonal weight restrictions aren’t one date for the whole state. Each of the 83 county road agencies puts its own on and takes them off as the ground thaws and firms up, and MDOT does the same for the state highways.

The notices go up on each agency’s own website or phone line, often at short notice. Run overweight on a restricted road and you can be fined. Too often a driver finds out after the load is on, or from the officer.
