Program
ThawWatch sends text message alerts about seasonal weight restrictions (frost laws) on the road agencies you choose to follow, such as Michigan counties, MDOT state highways, and MnDOT and WisDOT state highway zones. ThawWatch is run by Coderize.
What we text
- An alert when the weight restriction status changes for a place you follow: when restrictions go on, are lifted in part, or come off, and when a winter weight increase starts or ends. Each alert gives the place, the new status and the agency’s time for it.
- A one-time 6-digit code to confirm your phone number when you sign up or add a phone.
- Replies to the keywords below (STOP and HELP), and account notices about your alerts.
We do not send marketing or promotional texts.

How often
Message frequency varies with the weather and the number of places you follow. Most messages are sent in spring, when restrictions go on and come off. If you follow places in Minnesota or Wisconsin, you also get texts in winter, when winter weight increases start and end. There may be none for months at a time.
Cost
Msg & data rates may apply. ThawWatch does not charge per text; your mobile carrier’s usual message and data rates apply. Your ThawWatch season pass is billed separately.
How to stop: STOP
Reply STOP to any ThawWatch text to stop all texts to that phone. You will get one text confirming you have been unsubscribed, and no more after that. To get texts again, email support@thawwatch.com from the account’s email address.

How consent is collected
You sign up at thawwatch.com/signup. Giving a phone number is optional, and texts are only sent if you tick a checkbox that is unticked to start with and separate from our other terms. The checkbox reads, word for word:

We then text a 6-digit code to the number, and alerts only start once the code has been entered on the site. When a fleet account adds a driver’s phone, that phone gets a text asking the driver to confirm, and it gets no alerts unless the driver does. Consent is not a condition of purchase: you can use ThawWatch with email alerts only.
Carriers
Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Privacy
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile numbers and text opt-in consent are never sold or shared with anyone for their marketing. We only share them with the service providers that deliver our texts. Read the full Privacy Policy.
