Wisconsin weight restrictions by zone
State highways only
This page shows WisDOT’s own seasonal weight restrictions on Wisconsin’s state highways, set by zone. County, city, village and town roads post restrictions of their own, and ThawWatch doesn’t cover them yet: check with the road authority.
Always confirm with the road agency before you travel.

How it works in Wisconsin
Spring restrictions and the frozen road declaration
WisDOT, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, runs three seasonal programs on the state highway system, each set separately for five zones across the state.
In spring, as the ground thaws, Class II roads come under seasonal weight restrictions, typically from early March into May, and seasonal posted roads carry posted weight limits, typically from mid-March to late April or early May. In winter, WisDOT’s frozen road declaration, normally from mid-December to late February or early March, lets heavier loads run while the roads are frozen.
WisDOT’s zone data carries no start times, so ThawWatch treats a change as starting when it first sees it, and texts you when a zone you follow changes, in winter as well as spring. Check WisDOT for the exact limits and permits that apply to your load.
