MnDOT North frost zone load limits
Spring load restrictions and winter load increases on Minnesota state highways in the North zone
MnDOT sets seasonal load limits on Minnesota’s state highways by frost zone, and this is the North zone. In winter, once the ground is frozen hard, winter load increases let trucks carry heavier loads than normal on state highways here. In spring, as the frost comes out, spring load restrictions take their place, and some highways are posted with lower weight limits until the roadbed firms up.
Each start and end takes effect at 12:01 a.m., and MnDOT announces it at least three days ahead, so the status below can show a change that is coming as well as the one in effect.
This covers state highways only. County, city and township roads in the zone post their own restrictions, which ThawWatch doesn’t cover yet. See every zone on the Minnesota page.
Below is the latest status ThawWatch has read from the agency, with the time the agency gave for it. ThawWatch can text you when it changes.
